Progress Update 4
Well I did my official weigh in today so I can tell you that since the last update on 8/20 I have lost another 2 pounds and 3 inches off my body! YAY!
To be honest, I was hoping for a little more, but I think several factors are in play and I wanted to talk about those because I think they are important. Too often we get discouraged when we don't see the results we think we deserve, but often there are very GOOD reasons.
1. I met my workout goal this week. - Not only did I get in all my cardio (4 days of 30 minutes each), but I gave my arms, back, and abs a great workout this week. Weight machines, resistance exercises on the Bosu ball, swimming...
2. I increased my water intake this week. - I went from drinking 32-40 ounces to drinking 64-80 ounces per day.
3. I lost a LOT of weight the week before!
These are 3 healthy reasons why I lost 2 lbs this week as compared to 5. As evidenced by the reduction in inches (which all came from the upper half) my workouts had a positive affect on my body, but probably affected the number on the scale. Muscle does weigh more than fat, but adding lean muscle increases your metabolism and helps you look better in your clothes.
The increase in water consumption means that I am thoroughly flushing my body of all the toxins that can prompt my body to hold on to excess weight. The temporary trade off is that now it looks like I've lost less weight, but being optimally hydrated far outweighs the cons here. The benefits to my organs, skin, and appetite are undeniable.
It's best to lose slow. I lost a signifigant amount of weight the week before, and my body is going to start getting nervous and start storing fat as a safety net if I'm not careful. It's also a known fact that weight lost slowly is less likely to return.
So there you have it...another successful week! I hope that you all had a great week too as you work toward your personal weight goals. Use the comment section to update us all on your progress!

UPDATE #3!!
Well it totally slipped my mind last week to write an update...much has happened in weight loss world in the last two weeks. I've been sticking to my goals - although the exercise has been sub-par to be honest.
So... I've totally thrown out my scale. Apparently it was insanely inaccurate, and was not helping me be realistic about my progress (or my setbacks). So now I am only weighing myself at the gym or at home on a digital scale. The numbers don't lie people. I realized something very important. If I was finding the "right spot" on the bathroom floor to fudge the numbers in my favor, I couldn't really get as excited about progress because deep down I was pretty sure I wasn't getting honest results. Simple truth.
Before I reveal my weight lost over the past week, I want to share with you something about how I am using RightSize and the plan I am following.
RightSize smoothies are designed to be a nutritionally complete meal replacement. They also help you reduce overall calories throughout the day. It was the throughout the day part that I wasn't taking advantage off. Snacks are important!!!!!!! I met with a dietician last week. She has recommended a daily plan of 3 meals a day and 3 snacks...FOR ME (everyone loses weight differently - what works for one, does not necessarily work for all). Just for kicks, I tried preparing all the foods required for the day and didn't replace any meals with a smoothie for a few days. It was hard work!! I have children and a husband to cook for, a job to go to, a house to look after, and don't have hours a day to spend preparing meals!! Sooooo........then I started replacing breakfast and/or lunch with a smoothie as I needed to, to fit my lifestyle, but added snacks mid morning and mid afternoon and reduced the size of my dinner. When I say snack - I am talking about a serving of fruit. Not a bag of m&m's. I also added a small higher protein snack a few hours before bed.
Want to guess how much I lost in a week following this method? 5 POUNDS! I also need to mention that I drink about 2 bottles of SlimminAde a day plus another 32 oz of filtered water.
If you aren't seeing the results you want, make sure you are eating enough for your level of activity, and make sure you are feeding your metabolism throughout the day... You'll feel less hungry, your body will work more efficiently, and will be more willing to give up those pounds because you are providing your body with what it needs. Just be smart about it!
So the numbers are out of whack because of the new honesty policy I have with myself. But here is where we stand and I'll be updating based on these numbers from here out.
Highest weight 252
Current weight 227.5
Total Lost 24.5
Can you believe my old scale said I was at 215?
See ya next week!

Ok, so honesty is the best policy.
People, I didn't just fall off the bandwagon this week - I jumped off and sprinted away as far and as fast as I could.
The goals I set last week were not met, so I am putting them back in place for this week. I guess we all go through periods where our priorities get, well, "whacked out." EXCUSE ALERT: For me, this last week was BUSY. The kids are getting ready to go back to school - so that meant shopping and being out in the dangerous world of fast food and restaurants. I realize that I am not strong enough yet to go to restaurants or eat out. I haven't made that mental switch from "I'm making so many sacrifices" to "I'm changing my lifestyle for the better". I still associate food with reward and pleasure, and don't see it for what it is - the fuel my body needs to live. I've seen it written in books, and said on talk shows, but it suddenly rings truer than ever....
We need to eat to live, not live to eat.
Yeah. I needed that yesterday. So here I am, ready to start week 3 with a renewed mission. I am going to make myself a priority. Because I'm a mom, this used to seem so selfish in a way, but here is my reason for why it is the most imporant thing we can do for our loved ones (and ourselves). If we want to give our BEST selves to our careers, our families, our significant others, friends, etc, we have to BE our best selves. I can't be my best self when I'm feeling tired, lethargic, cranky, and unhappy with myself. I have to invest in me - with quiet time (for me this means prayer and reading my Bible), exercise, and food choices. My hunch is that if I can move those things to the top of my list, then I won't have to work so hard on the family time, career time, and housework time. I'll have the energy to spend on all, and no longer have to spread myself thin leaving something, or someone, to get the short end of the stick.
Really, I don't want to just live. I want to thrive! So from here out, I am going to try to make the choices that will move me toward eating to thrive!
I also want to thank everyone who has been commenting on the blogs. Your stories are so exciting and motivating! Keep up the great work, all of you!

Weight Loss Progress Update 1
Date 7/28/09
Highest weight: 252 lbs
Current weight: 236 lbs
Goal Weight: 135 lbs
So I've lost 16 lbs so far since mid-February following the RightSize plan (and not always faithfully by any means). That's a great accomplishment and I'm proud of it, but I realized something this week. I can't get complacent with these smaller victories. As great as I felt about my current loss, today is one of those days I wish I could just unzip the fat suit.
I saw myself in vacation photos...ugh...and realize that the work is not done. It's important to celebrate the mini-victories, but then we have to focus on the next goal. Use the momentum of each milestone to propel you to the next. I do look different and feel different than I did 16 pounds ago, but now I'm focused on how great it will feel to lose the next 15 pounds, and how amazing I will look and feel 101 pounds from now.
The plan is to reach my goal weight by my 10th wedding anniversary in May. My second decade of marriage will not be spent overweight, tired, and hiding from the camera. I will be alive and present for my 4 beautiful daughters who need me. I can do it. One choice at a time.
My current plan? I replace breakfast and lunch with RightSize during the work week and eat a normal balanced dinner. I supplement with Slimminade in between meals for extra appetite control and to increase my fiber and water intake. My vices are eating late at night when I should just go to bed, and getting off track on the weekend. I keep a food journal for tracking calorie consumption, and I don't go to the gym currently - but I should - it would really speed things along. Just gotta make some time! The majority of my exercise right now comes from walking the dog at night or playing with the kids in the pool. I am proof that you can lose weight with RightSize without having to change your activity level. It's simple calorie math. But as I drop weight, I'm excited about getting back into exercise and speeding my results by adding some lean muscle.
Goals for this week:
Go to gym 3 times and do 30 minutes of moderate cardio each time and some light weights with high reps after
Stick to 1400 calories per day
Consume 64 oz of water per day

Recipes and tips!

Have a recipe or tip to share? Comment here!
I'll share mine with you...
If you are like me and not a fan of milk consumption, try mixing any of the flavors with soy milk, or my personal favorite - Almond milk. What? Almond Milk? Yes!!! Almond milk!!! Find Almond Breeze in the refrigerated or dry isle of your grocery store near the rice milk or other milk alternatives. It is low in sugar and fat, high in vitamins and omega's and will give your Lean Cocoa Bean, SkinniVanilli, or Leano Cappuccino a great subtle nutty flavor. Almond milk comes in original, vanilla, and chocolate - and is completely dairy and gluten free!
Another great idea mentioned in the comments on another blog is mixing your SkinniVanilli or Slend-a-Berry with OJ. I've tried that myself and it is delicious!!! Using the Tropicana 50 is a great idea for less sugar.
Prefer a higher protein smoothie? Mix your favorite vanilla protein powder with any of our flavors in your liquid of choice for a high protein RightSize smoothie.
Alright! let the comments fly... I can't wait to see everyone's ideas!

6 Week Challenge
By JG

I'm on Week 3.
It started as an experiment. I was trying to design a tool that would be useful for making small minigoals that people could really focus on - instead of getting bogged down in the idea of spending weeks, months, even years on their weight loss goals. I made a 6 week calendar, (you can get it here), and I've been replacing two meals a day with a smoothie. The remaining meal and snacks that I eat are sensible and well portioned. I'm not counting any calories, or measuring, or weighing anything...just being reasonable.
Well - without changing anything about my exercise level - I have lost 8 pounds in those two weeks. Yay!
I still have a good ways to go, but I'm 8 pounds closer. Everyone loses weight differently, but if you safely eat fewer calories than you burn through metabolism and exercise, you will lose weight. It's just that simple.
So I'm doing the 6 week challenge...what are YOU waiting for?
